Professor Sue Chesler is a Clinical Profe
ssor of Law at Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law,
where she teaches Contract Drafting, Legal Method and Writing, and Legal A
dvocacy. Her scholarly interests focus on transactional skills, contract dr
afting, and legal writing, and her current research examines the benefits o
f incorporating narrative techniques in transactional drafting to better ef
fectuate the parties’ interests. Professor Chesler is an active member of t
he Legal Writing Institute, the Association of Legal Writing Directors, and
other professional organizations focusing on teaching skills and promoting
the use of plain language in the practice of law. She is also a member of
the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section and regularly presents
Continuing Legal Education seminars to practicing lawyers and non-lawyers o
n legal writing, contract drafting, and negotiations. Before entering the t
eaching profession, she was a practicing attorney in New York City for more
than 10 years, and worked as in-house counsel at a non-profit child welfar
e agency focusing on employment and labor law matters.
