EPAZ hosts monthly technical luncheon meetings on the second Monday of the month from August through June. These luncheons feature a guest speaker and presentations that are aligned with our Mission Statement "To promote leadership in environmental management through education, advancement and application of science & technology and building a strong, connected and engaged membership of environmental professionals".

A full refund will be given if registration is cancelled 48 hours prior to the start of the event; if within 48 hours, no refund will be given.

PFAS in Focus: Regulatory Updates, Key Questions Answered, and Insights from a First Responder PFAS in Serum Study

About: Desiree Hui, B.Sc.

 

 Desiree Hui, B.Sc., is the Director of Forensics and Specialty Chemistry at AGAT Laboratories. Based in Calgary, Alberta, she joined the organization in August 2021 and brings more than 21 years of experience in analytical chemistry, laboratory operations, and technical leadership. 

Desiree spent over nine years supervising a specialty chemistries clean laboratory specializing in the analysis of dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs) across a variety of matrices using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). She subsequently managed the Government of Alberta’s Fuels and Lubricants instrumentation department for more than eight years. The department specialized in fuel-quality analysis and testing to verify compliance with ASTM and Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) specifications. During this time, Desiree also served as Program Coordinator for the International Quality Assurance Exchange Program, providing proficiency-testing samples to clients worldwide. 

At AGAT Laboratories, Desiree oversees the Forensics Services and Specialty Chemistry departments. Forensics Services specializes in fire-debris and arson investigations, as well as petroleum forensics, supported by Desiree’s extensive expertise in forensic sample handling, chain-of-custody requirements, and legal reporting. The Specialty Chemistry department performs PFAS, dioxin and furan, and PCB congener analyses across a wide range of matrices, including soil, water, air, drinking water, tissue, serum, etc. 

Throughout her career, Desiree has developed considerable expertise in analytical method development, implementation, validation, and troubleshooting. Her instrumentation experience includes HRMS, GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, HPLC, GC-FID, and GC-ECD technologies. She is also experienced in all aspects of laboratory management, from quality assurance and operational oversight to serving as a technical resource for clients across diverse sample types and applications in both Canadian and international projects.
